• Tanner LLChas hired John Pohlman as director of information security services. He will be responsible for coordinating, managing and overseeing all information technology security services for Tanner’s clients. Prior to joining Tanner, Pohlman spent five years leading IT company Wazi Technical Solutions, where he developed and oversaw network security programs and protocols. Pohlman has a B.A. in marketing from the University of Utah and an MBA from Westminster College.
ARTS/ENTERTAINMENT
• TheGovernor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) board, at its March meeting, approved a tax credit of up to $331,625 forVineyard Productions LLC to shoot the history-based TV series “Presidents and Patriots" in Utah. The production is expected to spend $1.3 million in Utah, with principal photography taking place through June 30. The series will air on BYU tv.
• Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment, Salt Lake City, has appointed BJ Vander Linden for the newly created position of chief information officer. He will oversee information technology for the company’s 10 sports and entertainment properties. Most recently, Vander Linden was vice president of business systems at O.C. Tanner. He also previously worked as an IT senior program manager at Western Governors University (2013-14), director of implementation services at ADP AdvancedMD (2012-13), and vice president of support services at O’Currance Inc. (2008-12). Vander Linden has a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Utah and an MBA degree from Utah State University.

• Steel Encounters Inc., Salt Lake City, has appointed the following people as new company officers: Tom Jackson, president and Architectural Division manager; Derek Losee, vice president of architectural business development; and Shauna Christofferson, vice president of risk management/corporate secretary. Ira Field, former president and chief executive officer, will continue to serve as company CEO.

• ClearOne, Salt Lake City, announced that its board of directors has authorized the repurchase of up to $10 million of the company’s outstanding shares of common stock. The repurchase program may be suspended or discontinued at any time.

• Sundance Mountain Resorthas been selected to join Discovery Destinations Hotels & Resorts, a collection of premium hotels and resorts from around the world with the common theme of “igniting curiosity and inspiring guests to explore the world around them.” Discovery Destinations is a partnership between Discovery Consumer Products, the licensing arm of Discovery Communications, and Scottford Hospitality, an Atlanta-based multiple-service hospitality firm. Andy MacLellan of Discovery Destinations said Sundance “offers a beautiful location, first-class accommodations and amenities, and a broad array of activities which deliver guests an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind experience. This property also fully embodies Discovery’s core ‘DNA’ elements of nature, science, adventure and animals.”

• Snell & Wilmer has hired Nathan R. Wolfleyfor its Salt Lake City office. Wolfley focuses his practice in commercial finance. Prior to joining the firm, he practiced in his own law firm, focusing on business law and litigation, estate planning, construction and family law. Wolfley also worked for the Department of Human Services as a documentation and compliance manager and a HIPAA privacy officer for the Division of Services for People with Disabilities. While at the Department of Human Services, Wolfley was also a technical writer and compliance officer. His education includes a B.A. from Weber State University in English.

• Intrepid, Salt Lake City, has been elected as a member ofWorldcom, a global partnership of public relations firms. Intrepid was ratified as a full member of the Worldcom Public Relations Group at the organization’s Americas Region Meeting in Atlanta. Intrepid increases Worldcom’s presence to 143 offices in 115 cities worldwide. Intrepid was added to Worldcom’s global roster along with four other firms in the United States, Europe, Africa and Latin America.

• TheUtah State Baris honoringReyes Aguilar Jr. and Carl Hernandez III with the Raymond S. Uno Award for professionalism, public service and public dedication that has enhanced the advancement of minorities in the profession and the administration of justice. Aguilar is associate dean for admissions and financial aid at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, his alma mater. Hernandez is an associate professor at the Brigham Young University’s J. Rueben Clark Law School, his alma mater and where he earned his Master in Public Administration. The Utah State Bar also is honoringBarbara G. Hjellewith the Dorathy Merrill Brothers Award for her professionalism, public service and public dedication that has enhanced the advancement of women in the profession and the administration of justice. Washington County’s first resident female attorney, Hjelle currently serves as the associate general manager and counsel for the Washington County Water Conservancy District. She oversees in-house legal work, records management and customer service and provides general assistance to the general manager. Prior to joining the district, Hjelle worked in private practice and managed the Washington County Office of Special Counsel for Environmental and Public Lands Issues.
• TheUtah Academy of Family Physicianshas namedDr. Robert Armstrong, a family physician in Manti, as the Utah Family Medicine Physician of the Year. The Family Physician of the Year Award recognizes a physician who provides his/her patients with compassionate, comprehensive and caring family medicine on a continuing basis; is directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities that enhance the quality of his/her community; and provides a credible role model, both professionally and personally, to their community, to other health professionals, and to residents and medical students.
• Drs. Nicole ClarkandRob Mehl, family physicians in Provo, have achieved the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians(AAFP), a national medical association representing nearly 110,600 family physicians, residents and medical students. Established in 1971, the AAFP Degree of Fellow recognizes family physicians who have distinguished themselves through service to family medicine and ongoing professional development. This year’s fellowship class brings the total number of AAFP Fellow to more than 29,000 nationwide. Criteria for receiving the AAFP Degree of Fellow consists of a minimum of six years of membership in the organization, extensive continuing medical education, participation in public service programs outside medical practice, conducting original research and serving as a teacher in family medicine.

• Publik Coffee Roastershas opened two more locations in Salt Lake City. Publik Kitchen is at 931 E. 900 S., while Publik Avenues is at Third Avenue and G Street. Publik Avenues, with just over 1,000 square feet of interior space, is focused primarily on coffee and its toast menu and pastries. Publik Kitchen is serving a full breakfast menu, along with specialty sandwiches, homemade granola and Publik’s coffee options. Publik Kitchen offers table service in a Victorian house with more of a diner ambiance. The company has three locations, with the first, called Central Ninth, at 975 S. West Temple. The founder and owner is Missy Greis.

• CenturyLink Inc. has opened a retail store at 10384 S. River Heights Drive, Suite 102, South Jordan, for residents and small-business owners to test-drive new products and services now available to area customers. The store features a small-business consultation desk that allows business owners and decision makers to meet face-to-face with a representative who can evaluate their needs, make business recommendations and explain more about the CenturyLink Cloud, an all-in-one cloud platform, and the various security features that come with CenturyLink business bundles.

• TheGovernor’s Office of Economic Development(GOED) board, at its March meeting, endorsed a pair of Rural Fast Track projects. Boulder Innovations LLC, of Loa in Wayne County, was endorsed for a $50,000 grant to buy a flatbed printer capable of printing on a variety of materials — including wood, metal and textiles — up to 64 inches wide. The printer will give the company more flexibility in how products are created. The $112,635 project is expected to result in two new full-time positions.Big Pine Sports Inc., of Fairview in Sanpete County, was endorsed for a $50,000 grant to expand its service department by adding a 30-by-30-foot multiple-bay addition. The company, which does ATV sales and service, indicates that the $100,000 project will result in two new full-time positions.

• Bask Technology, Lehi, has appointedTim Kappas vice president of product. Kapp has more than two decades of consumer product marketing experience. Before joining Bask, Kapp founded consulting firm Citigen. He also co-founded Arkona, founded Bayhill Group, and consulted for clients such as AT&T, InterContinental Hotels Group, the SCO Group and The RBL Group. He holds a B.A. in economics and an MBA in quantitative analysis from Brigham Young University.
