The firm consists of a consortium of experienced Chinese investors led byPing An of China Securities (Hong Kong) Company Ltd.and a group of additional investors affiliated withZQ Capital Limited. Nu Skin chief financial officer Ritch Wood said the proceeds will be used to repurchase common stock throughout the remainder of the year and invest in Nu Skin’s China operations. Under the terms of the investment, Ping An ZQ China Growth Limited is purchasing $210 million in aggregate principal amount of 4.75 percent, four-year convertible senior notes with an initial conversion price of $46.50 per share.
•Great China International Holdings Inc., Salt Lake City, has announced it has completed its announced investment withSino-Australian Agricultural Technology(SAAT), an agricultural developer in China that occupies the world’s largest contiguous acreage base for macadamia nut planting. The investment figure was not announced. SAAT’s completed 2,500-acre planting base is expected to enter the fruit production period in three years. Meanwhile, three processing factories with an annual output of 10,000 tons are planned for construction around the major production zones in Yunnan province.

• Biomerics LLC, Salt Lake City, announced it plans to build a new facility in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, for its Biomerics Advanced Catheter division. The 52,000-square-foot facility will feature state-of-the-art engineering offices, research and development labs, and cleanroom manufacturing operations. It will operate as a hub for Biomerics’ precision extrusion, catheter braiding/coiling, reflow, assembly and packaging operations. Construction is underway and the facility is expected to be operational in November.

The award is to “honor a person who has made a substantial contribution to the financial services profession and/or the financial interest of the public.” Mason has been involved in financial planning for 40 years. He taught financial planning at Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University and two other institutions. He also was the director of education for the International Association for Financial Planning, the vice president of education for NAIFA, and worked for Ric Edelman for six years. In 1983, he held a financial counseling and planning conference at Brigham Young University that launched the Association for Financial Planning and Counseling Education the following year at Iowa State University. While at BYU, Mason and Bud Poduska started the first full-time financial counseling clinic on a college campus and the first financial planning software computer lab. He created and launched the Accredited Financial Counseling (AFC) certification program. Mason’s education includes a B.S. in economics from BYU.

Halvorsen, a Salt Lake City native, is known as “The Berlin Candy Bomber” because he airdropped candy to children during the Berlin Airlift after World War II.
