• Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams Ltd., an accounting, tax and advisory firm, has hired Cory Nielson as an audit group director in its Salt Lake City office. He has experience auditing companies across diverse sectors, including investment companies, real estate, private equity, technology and manufacturing and distribution. Nielson earned Masters of Professional Accounting and Bachelor of Science in Accounting degrees from Weber State University.
EDUCATION
• Weber State University has announced Mark Halverson as its new vice president of administrative services, effective July 1. He will oversee essential administrative functions, including information technology, financial services, facilities management, public safety, human resources and athletics. Halverson has held progressive leadership roles in facilities management and campus planning, and most recently served as interim vice president of information technology. His education includes bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Weber State.
ENTERTAINMENT
• Angel, a Provo-based film and TV platform, has added Robert C. Gay to its board of directors, appointed Scott Klossner as chief financial officer, and appointed Glen Nickle as chief legal officer and corporate secretary. Patrick Reilly, the company’s previous CFO, will remain with the company and continue to serve under the new CFO as the senior vice president of finance. Gay is the founder and chairman of Kensington Capital Holdings, a private single-family office. He is co-founder and past CEO of the middle market private equity firm HGGC. He currently serves as an executive director and member of HGGC’s investment committee. Gay is also an executive advisor and investment committee member of KSV Global, previously worked as managing director and chairman of the Management Committee of Bain Capital, is a co-founder of Sorenson Capital, past co-manager of the Merchant Banking Group of Kidder Peabody, executive vice president of GE Capital Markets, international consultant for McKinsey & Co., and an instructor in economics at Harvard University. He has served on numerous private and public boards of directors. Gay served full-time as a General Authority Seventy for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2012 to 2021, when he received emeritus status. Gay is currently a General Authority emeritus for the church and an executive director of Kensington Capital Philanthropies. He is actively engaged in and co-founder of the humanitarian groups Engage Now Africa, Unitus Labs, and Ending Modern Slavery. He is currently a director of the Forever Young Foundation and co-founder of the Ensign Global University in Ghana; the Ballard Center for Social Impact at BYU; and the Center for Business, Health and Prosperity at the University of Utah. His education includes an A.B. from the UofU. Klossner is a 35-year public company veteran who most recently was CFO of Field Nation. Prior to that, he was CFO and a member of the board of directors at Mercato Partners Acquisition Corp., which merged with Nuvini Ltd. in September 2023. Klossner continues to serve on the board of directors of Nuvini. Before that, he served as CFO of Kount Inc. and several other companies, including Backcountry.com. His education includes a B.S. in finance from the University of Utah. Nickle will oversee all legal, compliance, corporate governance and regulatory matters for the company. He has more than 30 years of legal and executive leadership experience across both public and private companies. Prior to joining Angel, Nickle was chief legal officer and corporate secretary of Beyond Inc. and held senior legal roles at iFIT Health & Fitness Inc. His education includes a Juris Doctor, a Master of Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University.
GOVERNMENT
• The Taylorsville City Council has ratified the appointment of Dina Blaes as chief of strategic engagement for the city. Blaes will lead initiatives to strengthen Taylorsville’s partnerships with public and private stakeholders, while enhancing communication and collaboration between city departments and the broader community. Her career includes leadership roles in both government and the private sector. Blaes has more than three decades of experience in public service, urban planning and policy development, most recently serving as director of regional development for Salt Lake County and prior to that serving as the county’s associate deputy mayor of finance and administration. Blaes’ education includes a master’s degree in city and metropolitan planning from the University of Utah. Blaes will take on many of the duties of Taylorsville Community and Economic Development Director Wayne Harper, who is retiring from the city after 13 years. He was first hired in 2012 as executive assistant to the mayor before becoming the city’s economic development director in 2014. Harper also is a state senator representing the Taylorsville area and will continue to serve in that position.
HOSPITALITY
• Stein Collection, which includes Stein Eriksen Lodge, Stein Eriksen Residences and the Chateaux Deer Valley, has announced the retirement of Chief Operating Officer Dan Flick, the promotion of Dan Bullert as the new COO and the promotion of Greg Gendron as chief administrative officer. Flick now is chief support officer, where he will assist with the transition of leadership through the end of the year. Bullert has been a member of the Stein leadership team for 29 years, most recently serving as the collection’s vice president of hotel operations. As COO, he manages all hotel and food and beverage operations across the collection. As chief administrative officer, Gendron oversees the sales and marketing, real estate and human resource operations for the collection. He has been a member of the Stein leadership team for 15 years, most recently serving as the collection’s vice president of residential operations.
MANUFACTURING
• Sisel International, a Springville-based company that formulates, manufactures and distributes health, beauty and household products, has promoted Karen Carter to vice president of global marketing. She will help shape Sisel’s product portfolio, brand strategy, promotions, events and overall customer experience. Carter has over 30 years of experience and expertise in product and brand development, especially in advanced skin care. She earned an MBA from Brigham Young University. Sisel (an acronym for science, innovation, success, energy and longevity) operates in more than 40 countries with a network of independent distributors.
NONPROFITS
• The National Ability Center, a Park City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people of all abilities through adaptive recreation and outdoor adventures, has appointed Jamie Starr as marketing director. Starr has nearly two decades of experience in outdoor industry brands, most recently serving in marketing leadership roles with Backcountry, The North Face, DPS Skis, the Oberalp Group and Spyder Active Sports. In addition to his experience as a lawyer and marketing leader in the outdoor industry, Starr has been committed to community engagement, environmental stewardship and outdoor advocacy through his board service with Western Resource Advocates, a nonprofit policy organization focused on protecting the West’s land, air, and water — a volunteer role he began in 2019 and continues today.
SPORTS
• The Utah Jazz have named Austin Ainge as the team’s president of basketball operations. Ainge joins the Jazz after 17 years with the Boston Celtics, where he most recently served as assistant general manager and previously served as director of scouting and player personnel. Ainge began his NBA career as a scout for Boston in 2008 before being named head coach of Boston’s G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, for two seasons from 2009-2011.
TECHNOLOGY
• R1, a Murray-based company focused on managing and automating health care revenue management, has appointed Chris Ricaurte as chief financial officer and hired Dan Bise as executive vice president of corporate development and strategy. Ricaurte has nearly three decades of financial and operational experience and extensive experience in the health care and revenue cycle management space. He has served as the company’s chief transformation officer since February, responsible for companywide strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, global operations and the physician and specialty care business line. Ricaurte previously held financial and operating leadership roles at R1, including as senior vice president of revenue cycle operations, CFO and treasurer from 2013 through 2019. Prior to rejoining R1, he served as CFO and chief operating officer of VillageMD; co-CEO of Parsley Health; and CFO at a range of industrial and manufacturing businesses, including Applied Materials, Nortel, CHEP Europe and GE Power Controls. Bise will lead R1’s organic and inorganic growth initiatives while continuing to identify and capitalize on expansion opportunities across R1’s core business lines. Bise has experience in M&A and business strategy and most recently served as a partner at Tailwind Capital, where he led investments in health care and tech-enabled services companies, and before that was senior vice president of corporate development at Change Healthcare. Bise began his career as a private equity investor, including roles at Harvest Partners and BlackRock Private Equity Partners.
