Alex Peterson
Gov. Spencer J. Cox has appointed Alex Peterson as senior advisor and director of the Utah Office of Families. Peterson succeeds Aimee Winder Newton, who had led the office since its creation in 2022. Peterson will begin her service Sept. 8.
She has experience in public policy, strategic development and child protection, most recently serving as director of strategic development and impact at The Policy Project. She currently serves as the organization's board chair and policy advisor, with a particular focus on child sexual abuse prevention.
Peterson began her career working in Congress before serving as national director of donor relations and personal aide to Ann Romney during Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign. After returning to Utah in 2015, she led corporate relations at doTerra International and volunteered as a researcher and data analyst with the Utah Women & Leadership Project.
Created in 2022, the Office of Families advances policies that support parents, protect children and strengthen marriages and families.
