Murphy Door, an Ogden-based manufacturer of bookcase doors, murphy beds and hidden-door furniture, has announced the acquisition of Merrill Hardwoods Division, a 30-year-old hardwood manufacturing company based in Rigby, Idaho.
Merrill Hardwoods founder Kris Merrill was instrumental in designing and building the first Murphy Door products more than 13 years ago.
Murphy Door will take over Merrill's 22,500-square-foot facility in Rigby, including its buildings, all manufacturing equipment and a team of approximately 10 employees, for $3.25 million through traditional financing. Merrill's full staff will become Murphy Door employees, with plans to double headcount at the facility within 12 months, Murphy's announcement said.
The acquisition is expected to add approximately $5 million to Murphy Door's top line over the next 12 months and opens new product categories, including floating shelves, stair risers, veneered products, custom hardwood supply and furniture lines such as nightstands, dressers, armoires, vanities and kitchen cabinets.

"The equipment, expertise in hardwood processing and manufacturing, as well as the team they've built in Rigby over 30 years, is exactly what we need to take Murphy Door into its next chapter."
Founded in 2012, Murphy Door offers a range of concealed door systems, including bookcase doors, mirror doors, pantry doors, wine rack doors and fully customizable hidden room products for residential, multifamily, hospitality and commercial applications. Murphy Door has major production facilities in Utah and Kentucky and sells direct-to-consumer and through select retail partners like Home Depot.
